Class description:

If you would like to explore a more thoughtful, idea based approach to kiln-formed glass, this five-day workshop is for you. The workshop objective is for participants to explore and develop an individual approach to design and making.

The first part of the class will involve each student giving a short (10-minute) presentation using images that typify what they make, together with images of their influences/inspirations. These presentations will be followed by discussions involving the instructor and students and will be related to each individual’s work and concerns.
Moving into the workshop and by utilizing drawing, creative exercises, model making, kiln forming and cold working, students will experiment, combine processes, and prepare tests and prototypes that may serve as starting points for new work or help to clarify current work.

Although this class will cover a wide range of practical glass techniques, the focus will be on finding ways unique to each student to investigate and expand their ideas rather than on finished objects. Hands-on work will be complemented by presentations on historical and contemporary glass work.
